JEFF & SUE – PANTANAL BIRDING & PHOTO SAFARI TOUR
📅 June 23rd to 30th – 7 nights and 8 days

Our birdwatching and wildlife photography adventure in the Pantanal with Jeff & Sue was nothing short of unforgettable! Between June 23rd and 30th, we explored some of the richest ecosystems of the region, staying in carefully selected lodges, walking productive trails, and witnessing unforgettable encounters with jaguars and giant otters in the Porto Jofre area.

📍 2 Nights – Pousada Pouso Alegre

We began the journey at Pouso Alegre, a traditional Pantanal ranch surrounded by a mosaic of habitats: open savannas, carandá palm forests, seasonally flooded wetlands, and gallery forests. Early mornings were filled with the sights and sounds of jabirus, roseate spoonbills, crested caracaras, near the lodge.

Day and night safaris offered excellent birding, and nighttime drives revealed owls, nightjars, and even a Tapir crossing the road!

📍 3 Nights – Berço Pantaneiro (Porto Jofre)

Next, we headed to the heart of the action: Berço Pantaneiro Lodge in Porto Jofre, along the banks of the Cuiabá River.

We spent two full days exploring the rivers by boat in search of the mighty jaguar (Panthera onca). We were thrilled with prolonged sightings of two large males and one active female moving along the riverbanks — a true wildlife spectacle!

We also enjoyed magical encounters with giant otters (Pteronura brasiliensis). Several families were fishing and vocalizing, offering fantastic moments for observation and photography.

For birders, the area was a paradise: ospreys, Amazon kingfishers, jacamars, spoonbills, and many rails and passerines could be spotted among the riverside vegetation and floating islands.

📍 1 Night – SouthWild Pantanal Lodge

SouthWild offered us a more scientific and infrastructure-rich experience, with viewing towers, feeders, and well-maintained trails. We observed guans, curassows, sunbitterns, and woodpeckers, along with groups of howler monkeys, coatis.

📍 1 Night – Hotel Mato Grosso (Poconé)

We wrapped up the tour with a comfortable stay at Hotel Mato Grosso in Poconé, where we reviewed our photos and celebrated the highlights of this remarkable journey.
